Dry conditions in Nebraska

Posted: 07/03/12 08:22

No fireworks will be allowed in any state park in Nebraska on July 4. It's just too dry and the fire risk is too high. The Nebraska Games and Parks Commission announced the ban yesterday. It includes the seven state recreation areas that typically allow fireworks - Branched Oak, Memphis, Fort Kearny, Fremont, Two Rivers, Pawnee and Wagon Train.

Gov. Dave Heineman has declared a state of emergency due to current drought conditions throughout the state. Gov. Heineman authorized an emergency declaration for statewide drought that allows state personnel and resources to assist with emergency situations and prevention, and allows maximum flexibility to the state to deploy Nebraska National Guard and Nebraska Emergency Management Agency assets and resources as needed.
